Inside the Match (Orthopedic Surgery): Inside the Match has a resource for every step of the process applying to residency – personal statements, rank lists, letters of intent, addressing red flags, etc. You name it, they have a blog or podcast on it. Orthopedic Clerkship Mini Text: This 39-page PDF breaks down the highest yield Ortho pathologies by subspecialty detailing each injury’s “Features” and “Treatment”. A great quick reference to go through before Sub-Is to build your foundation of knowledge.
Musculoskeletal MRI: Interactive MRIs you can scroll through in each joint with all structures labeled. Less interactive, but a helpful reference to have pulled up if looking at a patient’s MRI.
OrthoReviews: Quick reviews of high-yield ortho topics. Gives imaging, anatomy, and relevant information. Check this out if you want something similar to OrthoBullets but different.
Casting and Splinting: Individual videos for all of the common upper and lower extremity casts and splits. A great watch before a 3rd-year orthopedic clerkship rotation and/or Sub-I!
Behind the Knife: Quick bootcamp that is perfect for a student with minimal OR experience. Check out videos on suturing, tying surgical knots, and also identifying common tools used.

Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics: Textbook with comprehensive descriptions and images of most orthopedic procedures you will encounter.
Operative Techniques in Orthopaedic Surgery: 4-part textbook series with comprehensive review, illustrations, and guidance of virtually all orthopedic procedures. Details mastery of technique, indications, how to avoid complications, and what outcomes to expect.
HSS eAcademy: Youtube channel from the Hospital for Special Surgery with intraoperative resident training videos for most surgical procedures.
OTA: The online platform of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association provides an extensive video library covering approaches to various trauma cases.
Application Resources
Orthopaedic Residency Information Network: Database for residency programs that are members of AOA/CORD – best place to find information about each program’s general characteristics, participation in preference signaling, preference for away rotators, diversity initiatives, match trends, etc.
Residency explorer: Database of all ACGME-accredited residency programs in all specialties. Great place to start when creating a list of programs of interest.
National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) applicant checklist: Everything you need for your ERAS application start to finish. Ensure you check off each element of this list early!
